CODE OF CONDUCT
1. PUNCTUALITY AND ATTENDANCE
1.1. Students must be present at the assembly venue by 7.40 a.m. on school days.
1.2. Students must remain in the school compound during school hours unless permission is granted by the school authorities.
1.3. Students are expected to produce a valid medical certificate or official document for their absence on the immediate school day after the day of absence.
1.4. Students with high frequency of late-coming and/or absence without valid reason may be awarded a Fair or Poor conduct grade in their Report Book.
1.5. Students must attend compulsory school functions and compulsory activities outside school hours unless with a valid reason.
2. FLAG RAISING CEREMONY (FRC) / ASSEMBLY / RECESS ASSEMBLY
2.1. Students must assemble at the assembly venue during FRC, assembly and recess assembly according to class and index numbers, quickly and in an orderly manner.
2.2. Students who are Singapore citizens must sing the National Anthem and take the Pledge. Students will take the Pledge with the right fist placed over the heart.
2.3. Students are to assemble for recess assembly five minutes before the second bell of recess.
3. CONDUCT DURING LESSONS
3.1. Students must remain in class during change of periods and are only allowed to leave the classroom with permission given by the teacher AND with an Exit Pass. The Exit Pass must be clearly displayed.
3.2. Students are to leave the classroom during recess and should not be loitering along the corridors.
4. SCHOOL UNIFORM
4.1. Students are expected to adhere to the standards pertaining to the school uniform stipulated in the Guidelines for School Uniform.
4.1.1. Students are to wear the prescribed school uniform and modification to the uniform is not allowed.
4.1.2. Students must wear the full school uniform during official school events or examinations when required. The uniform should always be clean and neat.
4.2. Students are allowed to wear the Alternative Attire, class t-shirts or CCA t-shirts only on Fridays that do not fall on the day of an examination or a school event.
4.3. Students must ensure that the name tag sewn on the shirt / blouse is positioned below the school badge.
4.4. Female students must maintain their skirt at knee length.
4.5. Students are to ensure that the hem of the pants / shorts / skirt is neatly sewn and not folded.
4.6. Students must ensure that their school shoes are white-based and white-laced or velcro.
4.7. White socks must be worn at all times and must be visible.
5. HAIRSTYLE (GENERAL)
5.1. Students must have hair of natural colour and are not allowed to tint, highlight or dye their hair.
5.1.1. Students who have dyed their hair with a colour which is different from its natural one, will be required to dye their hair back to its natural colour. Students will be required to dye their hair to its natural colour once the dye fades.
5.2. Students must spot neat, smart, decent and presentable hairstyles.
School Rules
MALE STUDENTS
5.3. Male students must be clean shaven and neat in appearance.
5.4. Male students must ensure that their hair does not touch the eyebrows, collar and ears. (Students who do not conform to the code of conduct with regards to hairstyle may be asked to cut their hair immediately.)
FEMALE STUDENTS
5.5. Students with long hair that touches the collar must ensure that their hair is tied up neatly.
5.6. Students must make use of black or dark coloured hair bands or black hair clips to pin up their hair and ensure that the fringe does not touch the eyebrows.
5.7. Female students must ensure that their hair length does not go beyond the lower back as it might compromise their safety.
6. GENERAL APPEARANCE AND ACCESSORIES
6.1. Students must keep their fingernails short, clean and unvarnished.
6.2. Students are prohibited to put on any form of make-up including the drawing of eyebrows, eye linings and eyelash extensions.
6.3. Students are prohibited to wear jewellery, fashion accessories and religious adornments.
6.4. Students are prohibited to wear coloured / tinted contact lenses or other forms of cosmetic lenses.
6.5. Students are prohibited to have any form of body-piercing or body art. All prohibited accessories may be confiscated and parents may be called in.
6.5.1. Students with tattoos will be required to remove them. Students with tattoos will face suspension until proof of appointment to remove tattoos is provided. Students with tattoos will be given a timeframe to progressively remove their tattoos.
6.6. Female students are allowed to wear only one pair (one on each side) of plain and simple ear studs in the ear lobes. Male students are not allowed to put on ear sticks or any ear accessories.
6.7. Students are not allowed to have in their possession any weapon. They are also not allowed to bring any weapon-like item, which can be used or intended to be used to cause harm to others.
7. HANDPHONES
7.1. Handphones are to be kept out of sight during curriculum hours.
7.2. Students are allowed to use their handphones only:
- when teachers give instructions as part of teaching and learning
- after curriculum time
8. CANTEEN ETIQUETTE
8.1. Students are expected to queue up when buying food.
8.2. Students are expected to display good table manners and return used crockery and cutlery to the receptacles provided.
8.3. Students are to behave in an appropriate manner and display etiquette.
9. CODE OF CONDUCT
9.1. Students are expected to display the school values of Integrity, Respect, Resilience and Responsibility at all times.
9.2. Students are expected to show respect to all staff of Yuying Secondary School and members of the public.
9.3. Students are expected to show care for school and public property.
9.4. Students are expected to conduct themselves in an honourable manner that upholds integrity and dignity.
EXPECTATIONS
Students are expected to exercise integrity and take responsibility for their actions. We will take measures to counsel and educate students when they misbehave or offend. In conjunction with this approach, they will face consequences if they do not abide by the school rules. Consequences include detention, confiscation, caning, suspension, involvement of police / external agencies or any other necessary actions. Caning / Suspension may be administered to repeat offenders or offences that compromise the safety of self and / or others. The school reserves the right to take necessary actions in the best interest of the students, staff, school community and society.
The Discipline Committee reserves the right to decide on and carry out follow-up actions it deems appropriate, for breach of the Code of Conduct. The Committee also reserves the right to review the Code of Conduct and make amendments where necessary. |
